Does a protectant work? A lot of people think that a protectant on their carpet means that it won’t get dirty.  That’s just not true and not the purpose of a protectant.

There are several purposes of a carpet protectant.  One is to put a barrier around the carpet fiber so that spills and soil don’t penetrate. Your carpet lays flat so it is going to get dirty, no matter what, just from dust settling on it.  But, with the protectant on it dust and sand don’t attach itself to the fiber so it vacuums up much easier.

Same with spills, the protectant barrier allows you to clean them up before they penetrate the fiber. Word of caution, though, if the spill is allowed to sit too long it WILL penetrate the fibers eventually.  The proctectant only allows more time for cleaning.

Whether you clean your carpets or you have them professionally cleaned the carpet protectant makes the clean much easier and better just from keeping the fibers protected.

The last purpose of the protectant is that it reduces friction.  With the barrier around the
fiber, wear is reduced when the carpet is walked on keeping your carpet looking
the best it can for the longest it can!
